Die-hard sneaker fans have long considered the Nike Air Max 1 a work of art. Tinker Hatfield's first Air Max cut has achieved cult status since its debut almost forty years ago.

With Air Max Day in mind, Nike is revisiting the original cut of the 1986 model with a "Museum Masterpiece" that celebrates the shoe's creator and its transcendent cultural influence.
Abstract impressionism takes over the entire upper of the shoe, using marbled, multi-colored leather to create a museum-like look full of texture.

The theme then continues into the midsole, with further color treatments on a white base, complete with the large Air Max unit typical of the 86 model.

The typography on the insole makes the design theme clear: The right shoe reads "Please Do Not Step On The Art," while the left shoe honors Tinker, the artist behind the Air Max masterpiece.


The foam midsole and a Max Air element in the heel provide lightweight cushioning.
Swoosh appliqués on the sides.
